Description
Triple bill of US dramas. In 'Georgia Rule' (2007) a rebellious teenager finally sees the light as three generations of the same family lay their demons to rest. Californian teen-with-attitude Rachel (Lindsay Lohan), finally takes it too far when she crashes her alcoholic mother Lily (Felicity Huffman)'s car. Having previously vowed never to return, but with no options left, Lily decides to farm her out to her mother Georgia (Jane Fonda), a strict matriarch, who lives on a small farm in a Mormon town in Idaho. Over the course of the summer, Rachel, who initially rebels against the 'Georgia rules' of her grandmother - based around respect for God and a hard day's work - gradually begins to acclimatise to her new life, finally accepting responsibilty and learning compassion for her mother. 'Steel Magnolias' (1989) is based around the lives of six women who regularly get together in a Louisiana beauty parlour to discuss their lives and the men that invade them. Shelby (Julia Roberts) is the youngest of the group and despite suffering from severe diabetes, plans her wedding and then the birth of her first child like any other newly-wed. Ouiser (Shirley Maclaine) is a bitter divorcee, while Truvy (Dolly Parton) is the sexy, sassy hairdresser. In 'Stepmom' (1998) the career-minded Isabel (Julia Roberts) reluctantly takes on the role of stepmother when she starts dating divorcée Luke (Ed Harris). The children's real mother Jackie (Susan Sarandon) is still very much involved in their lives, and is suspicious of Isabel's parenting skills. However, when Jackie falls ill, the two women have to reach an understanding with each other - for the sake of themselves and the children.
