John Wayne Four-movie Collection (Box Set) [DVD]
Collection of four Westerns starring John Wayne. In 'The War Wagon' (1967) rancher Taw Jackson (Wayne) seeks revenge upon a cattle baron who robbed him of his life savings and his reputation years before. When he discovers that his nemesis is hiding half a million dollars of gold bullion in an armoured stagecoach, Taw gathers together a motley crew to help him steal it. In 'Rio Lobo' (1970), during the American Civil War, Colonel Cord McNally is first captured by and then turns the tables on Confederates Captain Pierre Cordona (Jorge Rivero) and Sergeant Tuscarora Phillips (Christopher Mitchum). However, when the war ends McNally returns to Texas where he discovers that an unscrupulous sheriff is conducting a reign of terror in the town of Rio Lobo. He finds himself forced to call upon his former Confederate enemies to help bring the rogue sheriff to justice. In 'Rooster Cogburn' (1975), the sequel to 'True Grit' (1969), the rough and ready lawman Rooster Cogburn (Wayne) teams up with missionary Eula Goodnight (Katharine Hepburn) who wants to find the men who killed her father. Finally in 'Jet Pilot' (1957), at the height of the Cold War, relations between the United States of America and the Soviet Union are strained. However, American pilot Colonel Shannon (Wayne) finds himself sympathising with the opposition when he meets Anna (Janet Leigh), a beautiful young woman from the wrong side of the Iron Curtain. Shannon attempts to curb his desires for the sake of national security, but a cross-cultural romance between the pair soon ensues.
